Matthew Konz
This is my 12th year here at Baltic being a paraprofessional, coaching Varsity Volleyball, Assistant Girls Basketball, Track, driving bus and being the Drivers Education Instructor. I've really been blessed to be able to work at a great school like Baltic and work with such good people.
Little about me
I grew up in the Northwest corner of Iowa. The town was called Hospers. I lived on a farm with 6 brothers. As you can imagine we had our chores, work, fun, and fights. I went to school at St. Pats in Sheldon from Kindergarten to 8th grade. After completing 8th grade I went to Granville Spalding for high school. In high school I ran cross country, played fall and summer baseball, basketball and ran track.
Schooling
After graduation I went to Upper Iowa in Fort Dodge for Broadcasting. After I graduated I worked on the radio in Sheldon, and Ida Grove before deciding to go back and getting my teaching certificate. I went to Upper Iowa in the eastern part of the state of Iowa. I was there for 3 years and graduated with a bachelors degree.
Work Experience
After graduation in 95 I worked at George Little Rock for two years. I worked with a student who was very Autistic, and coached Jr. High volleyball, basketball, baseball and was the assistant high school baseball coach. In 1997 I was the physical Education, Guidance and Religion teacher at Carroll Kuemper. Kuemper is a catholic school in Central Iowa. I was in Carroll for 6 years and really enjoyed my time teaching and coaching. I worked under some very good coaches at Carroll who helped prepare me to become a head coach. I really appreciated the time Bob Ytterdahl and Jerry Spieler took to help and prepare me to becoming a head coach. I was the assistant boys basketball and baseball coach their for a few years. Beside coaching I was the crossing guard monitor.
Married Life
In 2003 I moved to Dell Rapids and married my beautiful wife Tammy. In 2004 Mr. Sittig offered me a job on Baltic's staff and have really enjoyed being here working with the students. You are excited for a students successes and hurt when they don't do real well. Every day is different and that is what makes this job so much fun. You never know what the day will bring. Everyone makes you feel so welcome. In October of 2008 we were blessed with our son Kaden. He brings a lot of joy to our family. He has added so much energy and enthusiasm to us. We are both so proud of him. This year we have an exchange student from Brazil staying with us. Luisa is a junior and really fits in well with our family. She will jump in and help out where ever we need it. It's been a lot of fun learning about her and her country. I'm even going to try sushi this year.
The love in our family flows strong and deep, leaving us memories to treasure and keep
